The wife of a Cullman man convicted in 2011 for raping a child is set to stand trial next month as an equal accomplice in the same crime.
Dianne Kathy Robertson, 56, faces a charge of first degree rape in connection with a decades-old case that came to light when the victim, an unidentified woman now in her mid-30s, related to authorities in 2009 that she had been raped as a child.
The victim’s account led to local indictments against Robertson and her husband, 62 year-old Ronald Eugene Robertson.
Ronald Robertson was convicted by a Cullman County jury in March 2011 on a single count of first degree rape. He was sentenced to 75 years in prison and fined $60,000.
To preserve the victim’s anonymity, prosecutors have never publicly disclosed the nature of her relationship to the Robertsons. At the trial of Ronald Robertson, prosecutors demonstrated that he had had access to the victim for much of her childhood, and that she had endured his continued sexual assaults for at least six years.
Diane Robertson is currently free on bond as she awaits trial. Her case is set for the March criminal docket in Cullman County circuit court.
