— After serving as an assistant principal at Cullman High and Middle schools in recent years, Jay Page has been selected as the new principal at West Elementary School. Outgoing principal Helen Dunn is transferring to the central office as the new Federal Programs/Career Technical Coordinator.

Page was hired as principal at a Monday night meeting, and is expected to officially take over February 1.

Cullman City Schools Superintendent Dr. Jan Harris said Page’s experience wearing additional hats such as safety and transportation director should make him well-suited for his new responsibilities.

“Mr. Page is a graduate of Cullman High School and knows the system well, and I know he will do a fine job,” Harris said.

Page said he recently spent some time at the elementary school and commended Dunn for her work there in recent years.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” he said. “I had the chance to spent a week there before Christmas and it’s obvious that learning is going on there and a lot of care is being taken with those students. I’m just excited and ready to go.”

Dunn served as principal at the school the past two years, after former principal Elton Bouldin transferred to the same position at Cullman High School.
