Circus coming to town Saturday

CULLMAN — Want a chance to see elephants, ride a camel or see the funniest clown on earth? You can this weekend at the Carson and Barnes Circus.

“It unusual to have a circus this nice come to Cullman,” said Jim Blankenship with the Kiwanis Club, which is sponsoring the event.

The Carson and Barnes Circus has been traveling the country for 74 years. This year’s emphasis is a new circus concept which blends over eight decades of circus tradition and family ownership with exciting new acts and up-close audience viewing.

Performers are artist from around the world, including the United States, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentine, Russia and Italy. Acts consists of aerial trapeze, high wire, motorcycle acrobatic teams, jugglers and clowns, along with performing elephants, camels, dogs and horses.

Visit the free petting zoo which includes over two dozen animals both domestic and exotic.

There will be a Grand Spectacular Patriotic Parade which features a Salute to America displaying beautiful hand made costumes and animal blankets, Daredevils of the Double Wheels of Destiny with astounding feats of balance and agility while the performers are blinded and the Master of Body Manipulation.

Everyone is invited to watch the big tent going up on Saturday morning.

Show times will be Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Buy advanced tickets at a discounted rate and support the Kiwanis. Tickets can be purchased at Merchant’s Bank, People’s Bank, Wachovia Bank, Cullman Savings Bank or Nationwide Insurance with Martha Burchell.

The family pack for $25 in advance include two adult tickets and up to three children’s tickets. At the gate, adult tickets will be $18 and children will be $12.
