CULLMAN —
It may look as though the renovations to the Cullman County Courthouse are close to being done.
But, county officials say it will be a while longer before everything is complete.
On Tuesday, during the County Commission's regular meeting, the commission made a motion to accept an alternate project bid for renovations to the old dispatch area located on the south side of the building.
"There's still no timeline," Commission Chairman James Graves said. "We don't have a projection of when they think it may be finished. Usually it's like building a house, you get down near the end and you think when it's finished, it's finished, but it’s the little tiny stuff that takes time to wrap it all up."
The long-planned $1.4 million exterior renovation project has involved the removal of the building's white Sylacauga marble exterior facade and replacing it with red brick. In addition, the entire building is getting modern windows with a higher insulation rating, which is expected to help lower its overall utility cost.
"It will be a little while longer, but we'll be there eventually," Graves said.
In other business, the commission:
* Approved an abatement of $3.5 million to Webb Wheel Products, Inc. for machinery and equipment.
* Authorized the Chairman to sign a contract with AT&T for Managed Internet Service.
* Authorized the Chairman to sign the Scrap Tire agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for discarded tires.
* Considered a donation of $1,000 to the Center Hill Community Center, a polling location.
* Considered a surplus of a 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup 4X4 from the Road Department VIN #1B7GG22X6YS659135 for salvage.
* Considered a surplus of the following vehicles from the Water Department:
• 2004 Chevrolet C2500 Duramax with utility bed VIN #1GCHC241X4E196613
• 1999 GMC 6500 GMC truck VIN #1GDJ6H1C3XJ515856
• 2002 GMC 6500 truck VIN #1GDK7HICX2350392
• Takeuchi T3135 Serial # 13519968.
* Bid No. 1114- Corrugated plastic pipe
* Bid No. 1115- Emulsified asphalt
* Bid No. 1116- Cold laid plant mix
*Ratified the following personnel actions:
New Hires:

Promotions:
Deana Holloway — Sheriff's Department (full time).
Regina Green — Sheriff's Department (full time).
Resignation:

The next regular county commission meeting will be held Thursday, August 30, at 10 a.m. in the first-floor commission meeting room of the Cullman County Courthouse.
