Spring Tour of Homes to benefit Hospice of Cullman County

Giving back is the ‘name of the game’ for the Share Club of Cullman who is having a Tour of Homes on Sunday, April 28, and it’s proceeds will be benefiting Hospice of Cullman County.

For those that are unfamiliar, the Tour of Homes is said to be a  well-attended event that allows participants to visit six local houses; grabbing decorating ideas, floor plans, furniture arrangements and more during the tours. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased now until the day of the tours. Co-chairman of the event Laura Ray said they are excited about the line-up of houses they have this year and thankful for the generosity of the volunteers involved.

“These people have opened up their homes and are graciously letting the public come tour them,” Ray said. “Sometimes the home volunteers have family members that have required Hospice care, and it’s such a trying time, so they know they are involved in a great cause.”

One of those families volunteering their home to be toured is Jackie and Jimmy Walker. Jackie said she appreciates the Share Club and was grateful being asked to show her home on the tour.

“I love the work the Share Club does,” Walker said. “It is a great organization. The money that they take in is going to Hospice and I’ve had family members that were lucky enough to be served by them; They are wonderful, so the event is for a great cause.”

Walker said she was involved with a tour about 20 years ago with her home in downtown Cullman and encourages others to volunteer their houses in future Tour of Homes events.

“I had several little projects that I had been putting off and this encouraged me to finish them,” Walker said. “I got busy and got those done, but it also makes you feel good that you’re doing a community service and giving back. I feel like people help me all the time. I’ve really benefited from Hospice and I just want to give back to them.”

Members said the Share Club of Cullman is an organization of about 40 members, created in 1972. The efforts of the women in this organization have been to provide support for a worthy cause in the community. Since the beginning of the Share Club, over $163,000 has been given with the community’s help.

“The Share Club is a group of very organized women,” Ray said. “What our goal is to share with others that are in need, and with the community. Mostly, our efforts are now geared towards the Hospice of Cullman County.”
