UPDATE: Injured driver in CR 222 wreck airlifted to Huntsville; identity unknown

CULLMAN — An unidentified woman was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle wreck on County Road 222.

A passenger in her car, Mariano Hernandez, a male of unknown age from Jefferson County, was also injured and transported to Cullman Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to a spokesman for the Alabama State Troopers post in Decatur.

The passenger was wearing a seatbelt, while the driver of the car was not, the trooper said. The conditions of the driver and passenger were not known by Monday evening.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, Brenda Johnson, 48, of Dora, was not injured, the trooper spokesman said.

Initial information from the scene indicated three vehicles were involved in the wreck, but later in the day the trooper said only cars were in the accident.

The wreck occurred on CR 222 near the bridge knowns as “Big Bridge” or Phillips Bridge in the Wheat Community.
