Two people who allegedly stole a car from the home of an elderly woman during the overnight hours Tuesday are now in custody.
The suspects, Alexander Douglas Quick, 18, of Cullman, and a 17-year-old juvenile, were arrested after Lt. Billy Handley of the Cullman Police Department spotted the car in the parking lot of a business on Cherokee Ave around mid-morning Wednesday. Quick was charged with first degree theft of property and unlawful possession of marijuana, while the juvenile was charged with first-degree theft of property.
According to Assistant Police Chief Craig Green, the woman, who lives on Lakehill St. SW, last saw her 1994 Lincoln Town Car at 11 p.m. Tuesday before going to bed. He said when she woke up the following morning, she noticed it was gone from the carport.
"It appears they were in the neighborhood with the intent to take things from inside the car when they found the keys," Green said.
Green commended Handley for his work in locating the vehicle.
"We appreciate the work of Lt. Handley," Green said. "Both subjects are behind bars and the car is back where it belongs with the owner."
Quick is still in the Cullman County Detention Center, while the other subject is in the Juvenile Detention Center.
