A reported robbery on parking deck in downtown Cullman remains under investigation.
Several people have been questioned about the incident, which occurred around 7 p.m. Monday night on the top level of the parking deck, said Lt. Gene Bates of the Cullman Police Department.
“Patrol got a call of armed robbery. The caller said he was sitting in his car and was approached by a black male carrying a gun,” Bates said. “The victim said he was told to hand over his wallet and he began to look for it. About that time, someone reportedly came out of the nearby pool hall and said something. The victim said the would-be robber quickly got into a car with three other people and left.”
Based on a description of the car, officer Jerry Perkins spotted it on U.S. Highway 31 and with other officers made a traffic stop. Interviews with suspects and witnesses were conducted Monday night and Tuesday.
“Robbery is a serious crime and we’re looking into this closely. We’re fortunate that we do not have many robberies in Cullman, so when one is reported we take it very seriously to get it solved,” Bates said.
While no arrests have been made, Bates said he expects to release more information this week.
