CULLMAN — Local authorities have revealed the identity of the man they suspect was murdered in his Fairview home Thursday evening.
Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree confirmed J.T. “Jimmy” Hayes, 72, of Fairview was found dead in his home on Pearson Street around 3:20 p.m. Friday.
“In my opinion, he died of some type of head injury, I can’t say what type,” Murphree said.
Murphree said the exact cause of death would be determined Monday by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville.
Murphree said his findings indicate Hayes died sometime between late Thursday and Friday morning.
According to Cullman County Sheriff’s reports, Hayes’ body was discovered by one of his relatives.
“He was on the floor in the living room,” Murphree said. “The door was open, it was pretty cold inside.”
Details as to a possible motive are not yet available. There are also currently no details regarding possible suspects in the case.
