CULLMAN — Here's what's happening today:



Traffic news:

The Cullman County Road Department will perform brush cleanup around creeks and in roadside ditches. Watch for maintenance workers.



The Cullman City Street Department will have a patching crew around the city in various locations when weather allows. Proceed with caution around these areas.



Weather:

A day for umbrellas and iced tea! An expected 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 99 — and a heat index as high as 104. Cooling to a low of 72 tonight, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m.



Best bets:

Special reading of the Declaration of Independence: The Cullman County Bar Association, the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office, and the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, is hold a public reading, in unison of the Declaration of Independence at 1 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Depot Park’s Walk of Flags. The public is encouraged to attend this affirmation of a commitment to the ideals of independence and freedom from tyranny that are the hallmark of this great country.



Cullman Kiwanis: This club meets at noon every Monday at the All Steak restaurant, third-floor banquet room. Prospective members are encouraged to attend.



Cullman City Planning Commission: This group meets on the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Lucille N. Galin Municipal Auditorium.



Cullman City Personnel Board: They meet the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Cullman City Hall.



Colony: The Colony Town Council meets the first Monday of the month at 6 p.m. Contact the town hall 287-1192 for more information.



Fairview: The Fairview Council meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Fairview Town Hall.
