CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:



Traffic news:

Drivers traveling on Alabama Highway 157 near Cullman Regional Medical Center should schedule a few extra minutes into their travel time starting today. According to Alabama Department of Transportation Division I engineer Johnny Harris, ALDOT plans to transform the bridge at Lake Catoma into an intermediate one-lane bridge for short amounts of time during the day over the next several weeks, in order for materials being used in the construction of the new bridge to be unloaded.



The Cullman County Road Department is currently performing maintenance on County Road 522; and paving on County Road 723, 724 and 725. Regular maintenance, including bushhogging, continues throughout the county.



The Cullman City Street Department reports crews will be asphalt patching in several areas throughout the day, cleaning drains and performing grass maintenance.



Weather:

You may need an umbrella today but for shade instead of rain. It's going to be hot, hot, hot right on through the 4th of July.



Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Calm wind becoming southwest between 5 and 10 mph.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 69. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

A heat advisory has been issued for Friday with the heat index expected to surpass 100 degrees. Several cooling stations will be opened around the county for those seeking refuge from the heat.  According the the Cullman County EMA the following stations will be open this weekend:

Cullman Civic Center…………. Lobby and 1 room with chairs (Civic Center Auditorium is booked all weekend, but has this space available)

Friday, June 29 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Saturday, June 30 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Sunday, July 1 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.



Gold Ridge Community Center…… located at 5225 County Rd 1545 (center not available on Saturday)

Sunday, July 1 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.



Crane Hill VFD #1……….located at 15123 County Rd 222 in Crane Hill

Friday, June 29 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Cornerstone Revival Church….located at 3151 AL Hwy 69 N (just past Cullman Co Road Dept)

Council Chambers….Saturday & Sunday residents seeking a cooling center will need to enter thru the police department at the back of City Hall

Friday-Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
