Best bets:
Santa in the summer? The Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center will hold “Christmas in July” today. There will be games, activities, food and gifts. In addition, there will be a food drive for Cullman Caring For Kids Food Bank. Santa will make a guest appearance. Bring in a canned food item and receive a special discount. Time to shake a leg! The Cullman Carolina Beach Shaggers will meet at 7 p.m. for a basic dance lesson in the Cullman Museum basement, 211 2nd Ave. NE, Cullman 35055. Admission is $5, which covers cost of rental of building. Info: Sherry Boatright at 256-352-5080.

Anyone can dance at the Cullman City Parks and Recreation Department’s dance at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Donald E. Green Senior Center, 1621 Cleveland Ave. SW, Cullman 35055. Turn out to see the Boogie Night Band. Lots of music and dancing at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2214 from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $5 per person; public welcome.
A benefit singing for baby, Shelton Jackson, son of Dustin and Lisa Jackson, will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Valley Springs Baptist Church, 6979 County Road 437, Cullman 35057. Singers are the Trammell Family, Oleta Clark from Mississippi, and many more.
If you’re looking for some fun this Saturday, come out to see the Fullthrottle Lawnmower race at 7 p.m. July 21, at 1179 4th Ave. NE, Carbon Hill 35549 (gate opens at 5 p.m.). The Fullthrottle Lawnmower Association, a nonprofit organization, is sponsoring, with all proceeds going to Freedom Baptist Church in Carbon Hill. $5 admission fee. Mowers out of Tennessee and Mobile will be at the race. At intermission, kids can ride their own power wheels. Concessions available.
