Traffic news:
The Cullman City Street Department reports several prospective areas for patching: Rosemont St. and Mitchell Road near Sportsmake Lake Park; Oakmont Road near Elm Drive SE and Carrol Akers Park; Cleveland Ave. SW; and Pinewood Drive NW and Pinecrest St. NW. A reminder that 9th St. NE between 3rd and 4th avenues (behind Cullman Middle School) will be closed for construction.
Weather:
Umbrellas up! Today, showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 84 and a south wind around 5 mph. Tonight showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Rather not cook tonight? The Southern Starlets Baton Studio, 318 Graham St. SW, Cullman 35055, will have Swamp John’s dinners available from 3 to 6 p.m. for $10/plate. Proceeds will benefit baton twirlers/dancers who will participate in the competition at the University of Notre Dame in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Chamber seeking full-time tourism director; creates new board
The Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce is ramping up its focus on tourism, and is now seeking a full-time tourism director. The agency has also created a new, 11-person tourism board to focus solely on promoting travel and tourism in the area.
Plans to add a full-time tourism director have been in the works for almost a year, in cooperation with the City of Cullman and Cullman County Commission. -
Unsheltered International leads local effort to help storm victims
From their hometown of Cullman, to Joplin, Mo., and even Staten Island, NY., Dr. Travis Sharpe and members of Unsheltered International have provided hot meals, shelter, and delivered supplies to those in need after a natural disaster.
