HOLLY POND —
Citizens in Holly Pond won't be seeing any changes to its current council anytime soon.
Because all of the town's current council seats are uncontested for the Aug. 28 municipal election, a motion was made at its monthly meeting Monday night to approve the board and council as it exists. The council is composed of Mayor Herman Nail and council members Lou Thomas, Michelle Bell, Bartee Bryan, Ricky Carr and Paul Brown.
Nail joked after the motion was made, saying he didn't know if it was a good or bad thing no one on the council had any opposition.
"I want to congratulate all of the council members for being back for four more years," he said. "I'm pleased everyone is back. It's so much better with no opposition and everyone working together for four more years. I think we'll have a chance to make more progress with this town and keep it moving forward."
In other business, the council also discussed the town's Jam At the Park event scheduled for August 18 , as well as the forming of a library board for the town's newly opened Guy Hunt Museum and Library. The 5,200 square-foot brick building is located next to Holly Pond School on County Road 71. Inside, there are three are rooms that are used as a museum honoring former Gov. Guy Hunt, a public library, and a civic meeting area.
"We need some way to maintain it with outside interference," Nail said.
He suggested the board be made up of the mayor and council, and as each went out of office, the next mayor and council take over. In addition, he recommended a six-member association board be created to serve at the advisory capacity.
"If they saw something they thought we needed, they would make us aware of it, and then, if we wanted to go and do that we could," Nail said.
The council is expected to have names available to present to the mayor at the next monthly meeting on September 3.
