With a large-scale renovation of Cullman High School currently in the works, the city school board is also eyeing plans to build a new maintenance building near the football stadium.
At a recent meeting the board approved plans to let bids and approve the lowest responsible bidder meeting specifications for the new Cullman City Schools maintenance building project.
The proposed structure will be built beside the tennis court in an empty lot that is currently used for bus parking.
“This is something we plan to go forward with when we do the high school,” Superintendent Dr. Jan Harris said. “It will be a simple storage building. We’ve never had something like a bus barn, which the county has, and we just need a place to store all of our tools for maintenance and equipment of that nature. This is something we’ve been talking about for eight years.”
The board hopes to approve drawings for the building within the next month. The high school and maintenance building could go out to bid by January 2013.
The high school renovation will be paid for with new revenue generated from the recently-passed countywide half-cent sales.
