CULLMAN — The Cullman Times Cares & Shares food drive has collected more than 112,000 pounds of food through local donations.
The drive is ending today, but gained a huge boost late in the day from the Cullman Lions. Lions club members raised a record $9,000 for the drive, which equals 63,000 pounds of food for the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank.
Cullman High School also became the winner of the first traveling trophy among area schools by donating $2,100, which amounts to 14,700 pounds of food.
Many generous donations were made throughout the day. The drive collected 96,000 pounds on Friday. Sheriff Mike Rainey made a $1,000 donation late in the day to push the total to more than 112,000 pounds.
Results from Oktoberfest's sale of chances on a decorative stein will be known later this week. That total will be added to the food drive.
