Senior Shindig Friday: The 2014 Cullman County Retiree and Senior Shindig will be at 9 a.m. today, at the Fairgrounds (changed from Sportsman Lake Park). This change is due to expected rain.

Floyd Bradford and Friends will kick off the event with music on stage. The program will begin at 10 a.m. and will include a number of fun contests such as Buck-Dancing and Best-Bonnet contests. Trophies will be awarded to the contest winners and the Oldest Woman and Oldest Man in attendance, the Oldest Veteran in Attendance and the Couple Married the Longest (both in attendance).

$100 and a trophy will be awarded to the winner of the Unique Hat Contest, which is an annual tradition at the Shindig. Anyone age 60 or older can enter this contest and a “unique hat” is anything you can get on your head that impresses the judges! The “Unique Hat Contest” will award $50 to the second place winner and $25 to the third place winner.

A picnic lunch will be served at noon.

Shuttlebuses will be operating from the fairgrounds parking lot to the Shindig location on the lake at Sportsman Lake Park.
