The sale and acquisition of the Cullman Food World is complete, and the local grocery store is now officially owned by Belle Foods.
As reported by The Times in February, Belle Foods made a bid for the local grocery shop, along with 56 other southern stores, owned by Southern Family Markets early this year. Other chains affected in the sale include some Piggly Wiggly, Bruno’s, and Southern Family Markets shops across Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi.
Birmingham-based Belle Foods took ownership of the stores July 1.
In a prepared statement, Belle Foods President and CEO Bill White said he “sees great growth potential for the company and its employees.”
“Belle Foods is eager to begin serving the community and building great relationships with all of our current and future shoppers,” White said. “We are not just looking for where sales will come from next week. We are looking at how we can build a company that will last in these communities for the next 60 years.”
No major changes are expected for customers, and C&S Wholesale Grocers is set to continue as the store’s main distributor.
Southern Family Markets President Max Henderson Jr. said he hopes the purchase will bring some long-term stability to a chain that has changed hands several times in recent years.
“We are very excited about the completion of this transaction, the long-term view that Bill White and his son Jeff are taking going forward, and their strong commitment toward community involvement,” he said in a statement. “Their vision, combined with our associates’ knowledge, experience and dedication should prove to be a great and winning combination.”
