CULLMAN —
A Cullman County grand jury has indicted a Baileyton man on murder charges.
Michael Wayne Lindsay was formally charged with the murder of his wife, Tammy Lynn Lindsay, in March. She died at a neighbor's home on School House Road after being attacked in her home.
During the investigation, Phillip Bray, an investigator with the Cullman County Sheriff's Department, learned Tammy Lindsay suffered at least two stab wounds to the neck with a 10-inch knife, similar to a hunting knife.
The event unfolded at the couple's home roughly six hours after Michael Lindsay had been released from Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, where he was sent to undergo a mental evaluation and treatment. Two days prior, on March 13, his wife signed a petition at Cullman County Probate Judge Leah Patterson Lust's office to have him committed because "he was becoming increasingly more and more paranoid, and he believed that people were out to get him," according to Michael Lindsay's attorney Jason Knight.
It's still unknown why Michael Lindsay was released from Walker Baptist. According to law, a judge has to sign an order of release before a patient can leave. However, there is no record of Lust signing anything of that nature.
Michael Lindsay is still being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
