Spooky
By Tiffany GreenFor more than 15 years, Donnie and Debbie Pace have been entertaining children at their home for Halloween.
It all started when a neighbor brought a hayride full of children over and the Pace’s did not have any candy to give out.
“We live so far out that we had never had any trick-or-treaters and we weren’t prepared,” Donnie said. “We said next year we would be prepared.”
“We had to try to find anything we could to give out,” Debbie said.
So from that day on, the Pace’s have entertained hundreds. Donnie said last year more than 200 people came over.
Not only do they give out candy, but also provide an entire meal of Road Kill Chili and Buzzard Soup, as well as slushies, hot-dogs, drinks, snacks and all the candy a kid could want.
“We have a go-fish game, a moon walk and a hayride,” Donnie said.
They are hoping the weather holds out and are prepared for at least 300 this year.
“We collect toys throughout the whole year to give out at the go fish game,” Donnie said. “We have hundreds of toys and there is no limit on how many times they can play.”
Debbie makes individual bags of candy for every child that comes through.
The Pace’s started the event before they had grandchildren and now they say it is even more memorable to see their grandchildren have fun.
“I just like to see the kids faces,” Debbie said.
Many of the people that come out do not know the Paces, but they are regulars at the event each year.
“A lot of people just come here because they can come, sit, talk and eat,” Donnie said.
“It’s not a lot of fun getting ready for it, but it’s a lot of fun that night,” Debbie said.
“We are doing it to make memories,” Donnie said.
The house is located in the Bethsadia community off County Road 804.
