Strong storms expected Thursday in Cullman area

CULLMAN — Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the Cullman area Thursday, mainly after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

South wind will clock at about 15 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 25. Winds are expected to decrease during the evening as the storm front crosses into the eastern portion of the state.

There is a threat of severe thunderstorms developing along or ahead the strong cold front on Thursday. The storms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and locally heavy rainfall.

A squall line is expected to enter the region from the west during the morning hours. The storms will track east through the day, exiting to the east by early evening. Cooler and drier weather will return Friday, with warmer temperatures forecast over the latter half of the weekend.
