The identity of a Hispanic male who was killed in a shooting at a Fairview trailer park over the weekend has been confirmed by local law enforcement.
Emilio Mendez, 33, of Fairview, was shot and killed at the trailer park Saturday evening. Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey declined to release any more details, as the investigation is still ongoing.
Authorities had previously stated the shooting occurred following an altercation on Friday that continued into Saturday. Local and state law enforcement agencies spent the weekend searching for a suspect, who was not identified.
Authorities also obtained a search warrant Saturday and combed through the suspect’s residence in the Etha community in search of additional evidence for the investigation. Investigators believe the suspect stopped by his residence after the shooting. The gun used in the shooting had not been recovered over the weekend.
The suspect was last seen in a black Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck immediately following the shooting at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Trailer Park. Rainey said that law enforcement agencies across the nation were notified of the shooting and the suspect.
Rainey said more details about the shooting should be released by later today.
Funeral services for Mendez are incomplete but Cullman Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. More details about the funeral are expected to be announced in the coming days.
