— Lydia Haynes of Fairview has announced she plans to seek the Republican nomination for the Alabama House of Representatives District 11 seat.

Haynes and her family are longtime farmers in east Cullman County. She also co-owns Integrity Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and has worked for more than three decades as a registered physical therapist. She served for eight years on the Alabama Statewide Health Coordinating Council under an appointment from former Gov. Bob Riley.

District 11 represents residents in portions of Cullman, Blount and Morgan counties. Gov. Robert Bentley called a special election to fill the open House seat following the departure of former representative Jeremy Oden. Oden left the position last month to accept Bentley’s appointment to a recent vacancy on the Alabama Public Service commission.

The primary election for the District 11 seat will be held Feb. 12. Candidates have until Dec. 19 to qualify.
