Scheduled power outage Sunday
By Trent MooreSix city intersections will be without power due to electrical maintenance Sunday, so city police are urging local drivers to be cautious.
“We are doing some improvements and modifications to the downtown area that will affect about five blocks,” Cullman Power Board Manager Mike Manning said.
Affected intersections, which will be without power from approximately 5 a.m. - 8 a.m. on Nov. 8, include:
* Second Avenue and Fourth Street SW.
* First Avenue and Fourth Street SW.
* First Avenue and Fifth Street SW.
* First Avenue and Fourth Street SE.
Another outage will affect the following intersections later that day, from approximately 1 p.m. - 2 p.m:
* Second Avenue and Fifth Street SW.
* Second Avenue and Seventh Street SW.
Any driver passing through the intersection should be sure to stop for other vehicles, Cullman Police Captain Max Bartlett said.
“When signals are out, drivers should treat those intersections as a four-way stop,” he said. “We are in the process of putting out signs and will have officers standing by to make sure we have no problems.”
Specifically, the maintenance work involves rearranging some primary conductors within the city, power board superintendent Pete Black said.
No residential areas should be affected by the outage, though a handful of businesses will likely lose power.
