CULLMAN — The second major act joining Sara Evans’ Rock the South has been confirmed: American Idol winner Scotty McCreery will officially be a part of the two-day festival. McCreery will join The Band Perry as part of the second annual event, set for June 21-22 at Heritage Park in Cullman.

McCreery, a North Carolina native, was American Idol’s youngest winner in 2011. His first album Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s country music chart, and McCreery was named the American Country Awards’ New Artist of the Year in 2011. He is best known for his hit song “The Trouble With Girls.”

The City of Cullman is teaming up with country artist Sara Evans to host the event this year, which will feature several country artists. The festival will expand to two days this year, following the success of the inaugural Rock the South last year with Kellie Pickler and Dierks Bentley.

To help build buzz for th event, organizer Shane Quick, with Premier Productions, said his staff plans to “leak” acts as they sign on via the Rock the South Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/RockTheSouth).

“We thought about doing it all at once, but we’re trying to tease it along and keep people engaged,” Quick said. “It’s been a great way to get people involved, and we’re able to reveal things as we get bands to sign on. We think it’s a great way to keep people’s attention. There will be several more big names to come.
