A Prattville woman was killed early Monday in a single-car accident near Dodge City.
Alabama state troopers reported that the driver of an SUV traveling northbound on Interstate 65 was killed after her vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail before coming to rest under the overpass of exit 299 at Dodge City.
The driver of the 2006 GMC SUV, 21 year-old Quaneshia Albert of Prattville, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, 22 year-old Stevonia Scott of Prattville, was transported to Cullman Regional Medical Center. Troopers said both women were wearing seat belts.
No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. According to the Cullman County sheriff’s office, which helped divert northbound traffic, the wreck completely closed both northbound lanes of I-65 for more than an hour.
“It took out about 100 feet of metal guard rail, and that took about an hour for our guys to help get the guard rail out of the lane, because it was out in the road and it had the road completely blocked,” said Cullman County sheriff Mike Rainey.
Cullman Emergency Medical Serivce and the Dodge City volunteer fire department also responded at the scene. Police are still investigating the accident.
