CULLMAN —
A Phelan man charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his father has entered a plea of not guilty.
Joshua Lee Chaney, 23, entered a plea of not guilty on charges of attempted murder, second degree assault and second degree domestic violence, Thursday in Cullman County court.
Chaney allegedly stabbed his father, Rickey Lee Chaney, 48, who was asleep on a sofa at his home. Chaney’s father had reportedly hidden components used to manufacture methamphetamine from his son, which led to the altercation. Chaney then allegedly stabbed his father with a pocket knife multiple times. The father suffered at least five wounds during the attack and was later admitted to Cullman Regional Medical Center.
Reports say the younger Chaney left the home he shared with his father after the fight, but later returned to retrieve a pack of cigarettes and allegedly attacked the man again before fleeing.
