CULLMAN —
A former North-central Alabama Regional Council of Government (NARCOG) employee, who was terminated in March, has once again asked the agency to pay for his time away from the job.
Rodney Gann's second request comes just two days after the Alabama Ethics Commission found no wrongdoing in an investigation into which NARCOG Executive Director Lona Johns claims he used his position as director of aging for personal gain. According to a 2008 audit report, it was alleged that he was giving service vouchers to his mother who was not in the agency's coverage area.
"This issue was only one of many other considerations the NARCOG board took into account as to whether Mr. Gann should be retained as an employee," NARCOG consultant and West Point mayor Kenneth Kilgo said.
In a letter addressed to NARCOG from the Ethics Commission, it states Johns provided "insufficient evidence to support an allegation of use of office for personal gain." The letter further stated, "unless someone provides new and/or additional information relating to this matter, the Alabama Ethics Commission will take no further action regarding it."
Despite the ruling, Kilgo said the Ethics Commission's finding does not impact the board's decision.
