Man talked out of harming himself by police

CULLMAN — Police responded to a young man with a mental disability threatening to harm himself Monday on Monterey Street.

Assistant Chief Craig Green said a family member called the police requesting assistance.

“We received a call from a family member and apparently their son, who is an adult, suffers from a mental disability and had threatened to harm himself,” Green said.  “Officers Bobby Kelly and Jeff Mize were the first responders and were able to talk to him and get him to come out of the house.”

“My understanding is that there was a firearm inside the home and the family took and secured it,” Green said. “The family also followed up with the medical caregiver, the man is fine, no one was injured and shots were never fired.”
