The Cullman Times’ Cares & Shares food drive will conclude today at 5 p.m.
Donations for the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank have reached more than 9,000 pounds, which is far below the goal of 125,000 pounds.
Nonetheless, each donation is appreciated from area residents and businesses as the food bank serves more than 500 local families per month.
Canned goods donated can be weighed at The Times’ office. Donations of checks are also accepted. Each dollar donated provides seven pounds of food. For example, a check for $100 will buy 700 pounds of food.
While the food drive concludes at The Times’ office today, anyone attending Oktoberfest may purchase a chance to win a decorative stein. The money raised by the purchase of the chances will go directly to the food drive. The Oktoberfest board and Supreme Beverages agreed to help the food drive by providing the stein. The chances may be purchased until midnight tonight.
Food and money raised by the annual food drive provides food for several months of need at the food bank. The food is used directly to assist local families.
Schools that donate will be eligible to win this year’s travelling trophy, based on pounds per students donated.
The Times also has other prizes that will be awarded to donor after the food drive is finished.
Also today, Cullman Caring for Kids will continue its fundraising yard sale at the Cullman Warehouse behind First Baptist Church in Cullman. The sale gets under way at 7 a.m.
