CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:


The Cullman City Street Department will work on repairing streets at Logan St. SW, Dripping Springs Road NW, Schneider Road SE and Ruth St. SE.


Today, there’ll be areas of fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 85.

Tonight, expect a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Important meeting: The Arc of Cullman County will meet at 10 a.m. at the CCCDD/Day Hab Building, 1807 Beech Ave. SE, Cullman 35055. Info: Charese Lawrence at 256-737-1915 (after 8 a.m.).

Feeling musical? The Town of South Vinemont will hold a jam session for all those who play instruments and would like to join in, at 6 p.m. at the Scout House, 88 Ridgeway St., Cullman 35058.

Cleanup around the Lake: The Winston County Smith Lake Advocacy Inc. will hold a slough cleanup from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Saturday at Rock, Crooked and Little Crooked creeks and the White Oak area. Dumpsters will be located at three locations (given when volunteers show up); bags for cleanup provided. Volunteers to walk and those with boats are needed. Meet at King Boathouse Builder on County Road 222.

Entertainment galore! Cirque Motion will be performing its theatrical circus performance at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the McGukin Civic Center, 510 5th St. SW, Cullman 35055. The show features high-flying acrobatics, contortionists, aerial choreography, juggling and comedy for the whole family. To see more, visit

Find a feline friend! The Cullman Animal Shelter will now offer foster cat adoptions from 4 to 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month beginning Oct. 5, at Pet Depot. For more information, contact the shelter at 256-338-2936.

Donations are very much appreciated for the shelter’s Foster Care and Adoption program and currently needs the following: Large wire crates, non clumping kitty litter, gloves, bleach, harnesses, leashes, collars, volunteers, foster homes, assistance with transportation, people able to clean mobile adoption living areas, toys, volunteers to clean cages at Pet Depot during the week. Also, foster homes for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are needed. Contact the shelter for donation pickups, to volunteer or with any questions.
