CULLMAN —
At the request of the North Alabama Agriplex Board, the City of Cullman approved plans Monday to annex the new Agriplex recently opened on Tally Ho Street.
Tom Williamson, a member of the Agriplex board, said the request stemmed from a need to sign on to the city’s sewer system — which is only available to city property.
“We asked for it because of our restroom facilities, and we don’t have any way for that to really work long-term without being in the city and tying in to the sewer,” he said. “The city and county have both been super-helpful, and we’ll do anything to support city and county government.”
The city council suspended their typical rules of order and approved the request immediately, with no delay, and Williamson said he greatly appreciated the quick turn around.
“We’re tickled to death and we couldn’t be happier for the help,” he said. “We’re very thankful they thought enough to do it.”
The Agriplex has already hosted several workshops this year for children and adults, including raised bed gardening and composting, as well as organic gardening, small-scale farming and raising backyard poultry. Over the next few months the Agriplex has several programs scheduled for children as part of the Farm Kids Club.
