County, city sees rash of car break-ins

Local authorities are investigating a rash of seemingly related vehicle break-ins that occurred in several parts of Cullman County Friday morning.
Chief Deputy Tony Quick said Cullman County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 15 vehicle break-ins between 1 and 6 a.m. The break-ins occurred in several Good Hope subdivisions, the Good Hope Econo Lodge and Wallace State Community College.
The Cullman Police Department reported responding to seven similar break-ins. The incidents occurred mainly in the northwest section of town.
“We think it’s the same suspects,” Quick said. “The time frame is the same ... it was almost just like from one (report) to another.”
Investigators believe the cases are related because witnesses at different crime scenes gave vague, but similar descriptions of possible suspects, Quick said. Witnesses reported seeing three males in their 20s — two with dark hair and one with blond hair — at some of the crime scenes.
Hundreds of dollars worth of property were taken from many of the vehicles, including CDs, iPods, Sirius Satellite radios, purses and cash. In all but one of the incidents, the vehicles were unlocked. Also, many of the stolen items were in plain view.
“Whether a car is secured or not, whether or not it is in a driveway, make sure these items are out of plain sight,” said Sheriff Tyler Roden. “It is an invitation.”
Anyone with information on the break-ins or the suspects are encouraged to call the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office at 734-0342.
