City recognizes support from business

By Patrick McCreless

To Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail, the city’s park would not be where it is today without the help of a local company.

“I don’t think if we had these folks’ help, I don’t think we’d be up and running,” Nail said.

During the Hanceville City Council meeting Thursday, Naill presented a proclamation to employees of a local business, Action Environmental, for helping the city prepare the parks for the spring. The city council had to cut considerably from its budget this year due to an approximately $1 million spending deficit left by the previous administration, Nail said.

“For several, several weeks, they provided hundreds of free man hours,” Nail said. “The city didn’t have to pay for any of it.”

John Milledge, general manager of Action Environmental, said he was glad to help the city, as well as workers who have not received many paychecks lately due to the economic recession.

“We were glad we could send some guys up so they could make a pay day,” he said.

Action Environmental, which is located just outside the Hanceville city limits, offers a various industrial cleaning and spill removal services.
