Couple arrested on drug dealing charge

Cullman County narcotics investigators arrested a local married couple Monday for allegedly selling marijuana out of their home.
According to Cullman County Sheriff’s reports, Ashley Maze Huckabee, 28 and Jeremy Michael Huckabee, 28 both of the Joppa community, were charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Chief Deputy Tony Quick said the Cullman Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) made the arrests after a two-month investigation.
“They (CNET) had received some complaints of the possible selling of drugs to that residence in Joppa,” Quick said. “They did some controlled buys.”
After obtaining warrants for the two suspects, Quick said CNET agents conducted a search of the Joppa residence, where they found the Huckabees along with a quarter pound of marijuana. He said the marijuana has a street value of approximately $500.
Quick noted that no evidence of a marijuana growing operation was found at the scene.
“We don’t know where they got it from,” Quick said. “That is still under investigation.”
Local narcotics agents have had their fair share of marijuana cases in recent weeks.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested two suspects at the beginning of the month for allegedly trafficking more than 100 pounds of marijuana worth $239,400. . The drugs were discovered after a deputy noticed several men acting suspiciously near an 18-wheeler parked behind a truck stop near the 291 exit on Highway 91 at 4 a.m.
Joshua Ted Cowart, 32 of Moulton and Juan Reynaldo Castillo, 32 of Mercedes, Texas were charged with the crime. A third suspect in the case is still on the loose.
Both Huckabees are incarcerated at the Cullman County Detention Center.
Unlawful distribution of a controlled substance is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
