Addison church to host Iron Sharpening Iron

By Tiffany Green

First Baptist Church of Addison will host a men’s Bible conference today and Saturday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“We are trying to cross the lines of denominations and unite the body of Christ as a whole,” Samuel Tucker, pastor of First Baptist Addison, said.

Iron Sharpening Iron Men’s Conference will feature messages by Robbie Hiller, John T. White, Chris Luton, Benjamin Smothers, Tom Whitsett and William McClellan and music with Zack Cleghorn, Terry Blankenship and worship leader James Nicholson.

On Saturday, the conference will begin at 10 a.m., there will be a lunch break, then the conference will start back at 1 p.m.

Tucker said men in today’s society are not fulfilling the roles God gave them.

“As a group, we recognize we are not fulfilling the leadership roles in the church,” he said. “There are not as many men committed to families. God ordained the family unit before he did the church.”

Tucker said different denominations of pastors and youth pastors will be speaking.

“We will have a variety of denominations represented and we are trying to reach out to everybody,” Tucker said.

The theme for the weekend, Iron Sharpening Iron, comes from Proverbs 27:17, which reads, As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

“We want to strengthen families while strengthening the church,” he said.

A lunch of chicken stew, chili, vegetable soup, grilled cheese and cornbread will be provided free of charge.

Tucker encourages anyone, youth to senior adult to come.

“Bring friends and be a part of our conference,” he said. “We will have an over flow venue if we need it.”

The conference is free, but there will be a love offering received.
