Store purchases lead to meth lab
By Patrick McCreless
staff writer
A Holly Pond man led Cullman County sheriff’s deputies to a meth lab Wednesday after they allegedly witnessed him purchasing methamphetamine ingredients.
Jimmy Dewayne Brown, 47, was arrested at his residence on Blountsville Road and charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the first degree, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff Tyler Roden said deputies noticed Brown purchasing ingredients used in the manufacturing of meth from a business near his home.
“Deputies approached the suspect and developed probable cause to enter the residence, at which time the meth lab was discovered,” Roden said.
Deputies also said they recovered approximately 2 grams of meth at the scene.
Roden noted that the meth lab was not active when it was discovered.
“There was no decontamination process needed,” Roden said. “But an environmental cleanup agency was needed to come and remove the chemicals.”
Brown is incarcerated at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
Unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the first degree is a Class A felony, punishable by between 10 years and life in prison.
