Seniors from Cullman and surrounding areas will be dancing and eating under the Festhalle Market on Thursday during senior day at Oktoberfest. From bands in the morning, to lunch, and finally dance contest in the evening, seniors will have a day of enjoyment.
“It’s just a good fun day of entertainment,” said Angie Jochum, organizer of the event. “And it’s free.”
The Senior Spirit Rap and Tap Band will perform from 9:30-10 a.m.
“This is a band made up of seniors from the senior center,” Jochum said. “We play pots and pans, and spoons and washboards and have a real good time.”
After the band, Kevin Adams, singer and impersonator will perform.
“He is real good and does many famous people,” Jochum said.
From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. the first 500 seniors can enjoy a free sack lunch.
Mary Adams is also helping to organize the day. She said it was the biggest Oktoberfest event last year.
“People can come and enjoy music, dancing and fun,” Adams said.
Adams said assisted living facilities from Gardendale, Birmingham, Jasper and Florence are expected to come enjoy the day. They invited several facilities from the area and are anticipating a good crowd.
Terry Cavanaugh will perform in the Festhalle for the dancing.
“They are just an outstanding well-known German band,” Adams said.
There will be door prizes, free Bingo and fun, said Jochum.
“Should just be a real good day,” Jochum said.
Sponsors for senior day include Roy Drinkard, BlueCross BlueShield, Pepsi, Bud’s Best Cookies and Humana.
