Daystar is offering Divorce Care for Kids

Daystar is offering the Divorce Care for Kids class at the church on Wednesday night beginning at 7 p.m.

This course is beneficial to any child whose parents are currently in the midst of a divorce or have been divorced in the past. Andrew and Misty Waldrop, Sherri Lindley and Mark and Kay Bell are teaching the class.

“We hope to get healing for the children through a Christ-centered process,” Misty Waldrop said.

Children can discuss their feelings, do activities which deal with families and make a list of goals they hope to accomplish during the class. There is a “feelings chart” where each child gets to put their name over how they are feelings when they come in and throughout the class they are able to change it if their emotions change.

“We encourage the children to talk about their feelings,” Lindley said.

The leaders want to children to always remember one thing.

“The most important thing to remember is that God loves you,” Waldrop said.

The Waldrops both came from divorced families and wished they had something like this offered to them.

“It’s good to have a group for them to talk to and know others are like them and going through the same things,” Waldrop said.

Waldrop credited her mom for helping her make it through her parents’ divorce, but knows some kids need someone else to talk to about their fears and worries.

Lindley is divorced from her first marriage.

“I just want children to have a sense of security and know God loves them and it’s not their fault,” she said.

“We want this to be a community outreach event,” Waldrop said. “Not just members of our church can come, anyone in the community can come. If parents are searching for someone for their child to talk to, then come.”

Anyone interested in the class can contact Daystar Church at 287-3322.
