Hanceville car show a success

By Patrick McCreless

As far as Jessica Waldrop is concerned, the Hanceville Business Council could not have planned a more successful car show last month.

“It exceeded our expectations,” said Waldrop, manager of business and workforce development for the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce.

The business council hosted its first car show Aug. 9 in the parking lot of the Mission Possible Bargain Center in Hanceville.

“They say if it’s your first car show, you should expect just 25 cars,” Waldrop said. “We were expecting 25 cars but we got 60.”

Waldrop said the council raised approximately $1,200 from the car registration fees and the food vending. All of the proceeds were donated to the Hanceville High School.

Along with the number of car-owners who participated and amount of money raised, Waldrop said volunteerism during the event also exceeded expectations.

“We really appreciate the Hanceville High School students volunteering,” she said. “That was more than we expected as well.”

Waldrop said the business council only gets to coordinate two funding programs a year and that she wanted the first one this year to be as successful as possible.

“I did not want to see that committee not thrive,” Waldrop said.

Waldrop added that due to the success of the car show, the business council would likely continue the event in the coming years.

Waldrop said she and the business council wanted to thank the sponsors of the car show, including Mission Possible Bargain Center, American Proteins, Inc., Chris White Jewelers, College Tire, Cullman Electric Cooperative, Dairy Queen of Hanceville, Hanceville Inn & Suites, Morton Buildings, Inc., North Alabama Emergency Vehicle Maintenance, Inc., Wallace State Community College, Cullman Savings Bank of Hanceville, Consolidated Electrical Distributors and Vinemont Herbs, Flowers & Gifts.

Waldrop said the business council is currently planning a poker run for its second event of the year.
