Nearly every candidate vying for a municipal position in Cullman County filed their final expense reports last week.
Polls across the county will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. today for local municipal elections.
Cullman County Office Chief Clerk Tammy Brown said all candidates were required to appoint a principal campaign committee and file contribution and expenditure reports between five and 10 days before the elections. Candidates who did not reach the expense or contribution threshold of $1,000 were not required to file a report, but asked to file a waiver of report.
‰ Of the Baileyton municipal candidates, Joseph Golden (mayor), Patricia Gilbert, (Place 1), Wendell Peterson, (Place 1), Walker Mead (Place 1) and Roy Shedd (Place 3), Glenn Byrden, (Place 4), Bill McElroy (Place 5) and Anne Sullivan (Place 2) filed waivers of report. Wendell Guthrie (Place 1), Charles Dansby (Place 5), Joseph “Jack” McGee (Place 5) and Donald VanZandt (Place 4), neglected to file expenditure or waiver reports.
‰ Baileyton mayoral candidate Johnny Dyar reported $556.46 spent in advertising.
‰ Baileyton town council Place 2 candidate Albert Windell Calloway reported $403.92 spent in advertising.
‰ Colony mayoral candidate Earlene Johnson (incumbent) and town council candidate Place 4 John Henry Turner (incumbent) filed waivers of report. Mayoral candidate Morris Fitts, Place 3 candidate Patrick Ward and Place 4 candidate Donnis Leeth did not file either waivers or expense reports. Place 1, Place 2 and Place 5 seats in Colony are currently vacant.
Of those running for positions in the city of Cullman, only Wayne Walker (Place 1 incumbent), Garlan Gudger, Jr. (Place 2), O.B. “Red” Parris (Place 3) and Allen “Bubba” Green (Place 4) did not file waiver or expense reports.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Louis Bradford reported a beginning balance of $1,161.33, contributions of $2,930 — $1,280 of which was from Harold Bice of Huntsville, Don Jones of Warrior, Jenny Nance of Cullman, Sonny Mullins of Hanceville and Prestigious Pets in Cullman. Another $1,000 was from personal contributions. He reported $3,863.07 in expenditures for advertising.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Ernest Hauk reported a beginning balance of $3,738.67. He had $1,650 in contributions from Henry Martha Beeler of Cullman, Evelyn Galin of Los Angeles, CA, Stephen Swafford of Pelham, Kayce Bell of Hartselle, Champ Crocker of Cullman and several donors listed as miscellaneous. Hauk reported $5,170.08 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Eric Perry listed a beginning balance of $50 and a personal contribution of $1,533.27. He listed $1,533.27 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Marshall Rowe listed a beginning balance of $176.92 and $1,850 in cash contributions from Jay Mullins of Cullman, O.W. Norris of Cullman, Harold Sachs of Double Springs, AE Cotton in Cullman, Melvin Hasting of Cullman and Lai’s Chinese Restaurant in Cullman. He also reported $1,515 in non-itemized cash contributions and $2,829.69 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Max Townson reported a beginning balance of $3,205.12 and $2,232.66 in contributions from Equipment Logistics, Inc. of Hanceville, Nan Plank of Hanceville, James Terry, Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Tankersley, Charles Smith, Zane Blair, Allan Pelletier, Bill Hendrix, all of Cullman, Jerry and Susan Waters of Hanceville, Ted Calvert of Cullman, William Sacra of Cullman, Ted Mauldin of Cullman, Don and Donna Kay Keller of Montgomery, Quality Outdoor Signs of Cullman and Baby Johns BBQ of Cullman. He reported $6,265.34 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman Place 1 candidate Andrew Page reported a beginning balance of $3,000, no contributions and $2,768.56 in expenditures for advertising.
‰ Cullman Place 1 candidate Kerry Watson reported no contributions and $1,379.21 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman Place 3 candidate John Cook reported a beginning balance of $368.27 and $2,700 in non-itemized cash contributions and $2,979.36 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman Place 3 candidate Jewel Hall reported no contributions and $1,805.64 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman Place 4 candidate Larry Entrekin reported no contributions and $1,259.79 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman Place 4 candidate Jacob Clinton Hollingsworth filed a waiver of report.
‰ Cullman Place 5 candidate Jenny Folsom reported a beginning balance of $636.47 and $2,260 in contributions from Renee Quick of Hanceville, Tim Culpepper of Cullman, Billy McFarland of Tuscaloosa, Jim Folsom, Jr., Marsha Folsom, Johnny Guthrie, Ronnie Easterwood, Dr. James Bailey, Neal Morrison and Don Keller. Folsom also listed a $1,000 personal contribution. Folsom reported $3,574.97 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman Place 5 candidate C. Blake West reported a personal contribution of $2,000 and $1,566 in advertising expenditures.
Of the Cullman City School Board candidates, Kim Addison (Place 1) and Kaye Donnelly (Place 5) did not file waiver or expense reports. Johnny Green (Place 3), Hope Weeks (Place 1), Jason Neal (Place 4) and Bobby Noles (Place 5) filed waivers of report.
‰ City school board Place 1 candidate Richard Collins reported a beginning balance of $142, a personal contribution of $2,000 and $2,070.34 in advertising expenditures.
‰ City school board Place 2 candidate Mark Freeman reported $500 in contributions from Classic Automotive and $600 in non-itemized cash contributions. He reported $574.51 in advertising expenditures.
‰ City school board Place 2 candidate Brenda Bonds Howell reported $350 in contributions from Karon and Elaine Lovin and a $290 personal contribution. Howell reported $640 in advertising expenditures.
‰ City school board Place 3 candidate Jayne Barnett reported a beginning balance of $493.13, no contributions and $542.72 in advertising expenditures.
‰ City school board Place 3 candidate Steven Sides reported $400 in contributions from Greg Bostick of Cullman and a $1,500 personal contribution. He had $1,844 in advertising expenditures.
‰ City school board Place 5 candidate Suzanne Harbin reported a $300 non-itemized cash contribution and $1,873 in advertising expenditures.
All Dodge City candidates, including Jeremy Barber (mayor), Perry Ray (mayor incumbent), Jason Burney (Place 1), Murray Lowe (Place 1), Tawana Canada (Place 2), Anthony Todd (Place 3), Inez McDonald (Place 4) and Ervin Chumley (Place 5) filed waivers of reports.
Good Hope candidates Alisha Jones (Place 1) and James Calvert (Place 4) were the only ones who neither filed a waiver or expense report. Candidates Corey Harbison (mayor), David Scott (mayor), John Harris (Place 1), Carroll Gray (Place 2), Maxie Jones (Place 2), Greg Brown (Place 3), Susan Eller (Place 3), Jerry Bartlett (Place 4), Donna Hudson (Place 4), Danny Buchanan (Place 5) and Jimmy Caudle (Place 5) all filed waivers of report.
‰ Good Hope mayoral incumbent candidate Gordon Dunagan reported a beginning balance of $2,060.68, a personal contribution of $501.83 and $2,533.38 in advertising expenditures.
Of the Hanceville candidates, Douglas Batemon (mayor), Bobby Brown (mayor), Jo Ann Walls (Place 1), Rodell Knight (Place 3), Charles Wilson (Place 4) and Ed Flaig (Place 5) did not file waivers or expense reports. Connie Martin (mayor), Kenneth Nail (mayor), Rhonda Jett (Place 1), Sally Alexander (Place 2), Larry Cornett (Place 2), Hubert Jones (Place 3), Kim Brown (Place 3), James Sawyer (Place 5) and Calvin Wayne Armstrong (Place 5) all filed waivers of report. Oscar Santiago (Place 4), Selma Barnett (Place 4) and John Whitaker (Place 1) reported no contributions and no expenditures.
Vinemont candidates Melba Patton (mayor), Jerry Smith (mayor), JoAnn Oakley (Place 1), Jeff Brown (Place 1), Avel Swann (Place 2) and Terry Holcomb (Place 2) filed waivers of report. Candidates Robert Schweighart (Place 3), J.D. Marcum (Place 4) and Mike Reynolds (Place 5) did not file waiver or expense reports.

3 arrested in connection with church burglaries
Three people were arrested over the weekend in connection with a church burglary that took place at Seventh Street Baptist Church in June of last year.
Eric McMillian turned himself into the Cullman Police Department Saturday and was charged with burglary and receiving stolen property according to officials. A female juvenile was also taken into custody. -
