Brutal wreck, minor injuries
By Patrick McCrelessOnly minor injuries were reported in a brutal crash on Highway 157 Friday in which one vehicle flipped over on its side before it collided with a guard rail.
Traffic slowed to a crawl for nearly an hour at the intersection of Highway 157 and Interstate 65 as local firefighters and police officers surveyed the scene of the two-vehicle accident. Only the driver of the flipped vehicle reported having any injuries, which she indicated were minor.
“The driver of the truck was okay,” said Officer Adam Clark of the Cullman Police Department. “She was up and talking on her cell phone.”
Clark said the driver of the flipped truck was a Cullman resident while the other driver was from Addison.
According to reports, the police department received a call concerning the crash at approximately 4:32 p.m. Members of the Cullman and Vinemont-Province Fire Departments were dispatched to the accident. Upon arrival at the scene, officers and firefighters discovered two white pickup trucks had collided on the southbound side of Highway 157.
“We believe the overturned vehicle might have pulled in front of the other one, according to witnesses,” Clark said.
Preliminary investigations indicated the driver of the flipped truck was making a left turn onto the Highway 157 exit to Interstate 65 when it was struck by the second truck traveling southbound on Highway 157.
Further details concerning the crash were not available by deadline.
