CULLMAN — A welfare inspection resulted in an arrest for meth manufacturing last week.
Harlan T. Conn, 46, of Vinemont has been charged with alleged manufacturing of a controlled substance in the first degree.
On Dec. 22, sheriff’s deputies were assisting the Department of Human Resources in a welfare inspection at a West Point residence.
“They had received some information there was a disabled adult female at that home and meth was being made there,” Sheriff Tyler Roden said.
Once on site, Roden said deputies were able to develop probable cause to do a search of the home.
“It was obvious there were some meth making activities going on at the residence,” he said. “They followed up on that and found meth being made there.”
Conn was at the residence at that time and was arrested.
The disabled adult female, who was a family member of Conn, was also at the home.
“The Department of Human Resources immediately began working to get the disabled individual to a safer place,” Roden said.
The woman is believed not to be involved in the meth manufacturing.
Conn is currently incarcerated at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
Unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the first degree is a Class A felony, punishable by up to life in prison.
