CULLMAN — Scale-back Alabama, a statewide weight-loss contest, is returning to Cullman January 23 for the fourth year. The program is a 10-week, statewide contest held to encourage Alabamians to get healthier by losing weight and exercising.
Last year, more than 40,000 people, in almost every county, lost a total of almost 200,000 pounds.
Veronica Baran at Professional Weight Loss Center said they are proud to be participating again this year.
“If you can help a person lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks, they just feel good about themselves,” she said.
Last year, 115 people completed the Scale Back program at Professional Weight Loss and lost a total of 1,300 pounds.
Baran encouraged everyone to participate, even if they do not have a four-person team.
“They will be put on a team with others,” she said.
One Fitness at Cullman Wellness and Aquatics Center and Medical Weight Loss Solutions are also weigh-in sites.
Participants are put into teams of four and are eligible for prizes if their goals are reached at the end of the program. Participants are encouraged to lose at least one pound each week, with at least 10 pounds being lost by the end of the time period. All participants who lose the 10-pound goal will be registered in the drawing. Prizes range from $100 to $1,000.
There is no charge to participate in the contest, and contestants must be at least 18.
Team prizes will be announced during the Webcast on April 28. Individual prizes will be posted on the Web site two hours after the conclusion of the Web cast.
Team prizes include random drawings of teams when each team member has lost at least 10 pounds during the 10 week contest the final weigh-in will be April 10-16. Weight must be recorded at an official Scale Back weigh in site.
Winnings include cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 per person per team drawn.
