Town loses attorney
The town of Good Hope will soon be in need of a new attorney.
Good Hope Mayor Corey Harbison said Renee Mills of the firm Bland, Harris and McClellan of Cullman, recently resigned and will cease to be the town's attorney in two weeks.
"I hate to see her go," Harbison said. "She's done a good job for us since she's been here."
Harbison said Mills decided to resign because she got a new job in Birmingham and not because of any problem between her and the town council.
"There's no fighting or anything at our council meetings," Harbison said with a laugh. "She just got a new job ... she said it was a better opportunity."
Mills was appointed as the town attorney last year when the Harbison and the current council took over from the previous administration.
"We just appointed a new attorney with the new administration ... we just wanted to start fresh with the new administration," Harbison said.
As far as town business is concerned, Harbison said the unexpected resignation should not cause any problems.
"We'll just appoint another one and carry on," he said.
To date, the council has not made a decision on a new attorney.
"A couple of names have been tossed around but there's nobody in particular," Harbison said.
