Hauk new Sacred Heart principal
After more than 30 years, Ernest Hauk has found himself right back where he started.
The longtime teacher and former Cullman city councilman has been hired as the new principal at Sacred Heart School, the place he began his teaching career nearly 31 years ago.
“I’m really excited to be back at Sacred Heart,” he said. “I actually started my teaching career here, back in 1978.”
Hauk has 27 years of public school experience as a social studies, math and English instructor. He has also served at the Cullman City Schools’ long-term alternative school.
Hauk said he is very excited to join the staff at the school.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of the family atmosphere at the school and working with a staff that is second to none,” he said. “I’m totally dedicated to providing the best education and Christian atmosphere as possible.”
While also working as an educator, Hauk served from 2000-2008 as a council member on the Cullman City Council.
In the 2008 election Hauk mounted a campaign to run for Mayor of Cullman, but was defeated by current Mayor Max Townson for the position.
“Obviously, God had something else in mind for me,” Hauk said, looking back to the election. “I love education and I’m really glad I’ll be able to continue in this field.”
Former Sacred Heart School principal Shawna Norman stepped down from the position, taking a new post as a teacher at the school.
“She decided that she missed the classroom and wanted to fill a sixth grade opening,” Hauk said.
The school year for Sacred Heart School is slated to begin Aug. 10.
