Plenty of events on weekend schedule
By Tiffany GreenThere will be plenty of food, music and, of course, fireworks this weekend.
Smith Lake Park will have its annual Independence Day celebration starting today.
The park will open at 8 a.m. with no admission price. People can enjoy free music by two local bands. 24U takes the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Judge Cletus at 8 p.m.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. Saturday with a $5 admission, which includes the park, pool and slide.
John Sellers, Cullman County Parks Director, is excited about this year’s events.
“People are really going to be impressed,” Sellers said. “There will be 25 food vendors there offering a whole array of foods.”
Saturday entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. with Karaoke Pros taking the stage. Local band Triple Play will perform from 7 - 9 p.m. They will be immediately followed by the annual the fireworks display.
“We will have a bigger and better fireworks show,” Sellers said. “It will be an extended show and they will be using a larger fireworks display.”
Sellers hopes to see a big crowd.
The Cullman Wellness and Aquatics Center will be closed Saturday except for the pools.
“We will have the pools only opened on Saturday and also Nesmith Pool will be opened for their regular schedule,” said John Hunt, Cullman City Parks and Recreation Director.
Festhalle Market Platz will have Celebrate America Day with food and music.
“Folks can come in and get some fresh vegetables to use at their Fourth cookouts,” said manager Jimmy Simms.
The farmers’ market will open at 7 a.m. with fresh fruits and vegetables, baked and canned good and hand made crafts.
“Saturday will just be a great day. We will have free hamburgers and hot dogs while they last beginning at 10 a.m. thanks to our sponsors Piggly Wiggly, Wal-Mart and Sunbeam Bread Store,” Simms said.
Music will begin at 9 a.m. with Dalton Bray performing followed by Katie Burney at 10:30 a.m.
