He is the newly elected mayor of Colony and wants to bring a new approach to the town. By Tiffany Green STAFF WRITER Morris Fitts hopes to bring change to Colony. He is the newly elected mayor of Colony and wants to bring a new approach to the town. “We want a new beginning and bringing people together as a family,” he said. Fitts said he has some plans to improve his community. He hopes to open the community park back up and start the baseball and softball leagues again. “We need a place where families and the community can come together,” he said. He hopes to eventually bring some apartment homes to his town. He said more housing is needed in the town. He also wants to work more with the seniors at the senior center. “The senior citizens meet every day at the town hall and eat and play games. Some of the ladies bring their sewing.” He also wants to improve the town’s day care center. “We need to improve the day care center to attract people and bring more children there,” he said. Fitts said as many as 50 families use the daycare center. There are currently not any businesses in the town other than a gas station, and the new mayor hopes to change that. “We’re looking to add something, maybe a grocery store,” he said. “I know it’s a long shot, but we will try.”
