Sweet smells filled the air when chef Michelle Roberts cooked main dishes like Indian chicken and desserts like pumpkin tiramisu. Fall flavors on display at cooking school By Tiffany Green The Cullman Times HANCEVILLE — More than 600 people turned out for the third annual Taste of Home Cooking School at Wallace State Community College.
Sweet smells filled the air when chef Michelle Roberts cooked main dishes like Indian chicken and desserts like pumpkin tiramisu. Over $2,500 worth of door prizes were given away. Attendants were encouraged by Roberts to yell out “I love food” when they won a prize. The show was sponsored by The Cullman Times, and publisher Bill Morgan emceed the event. Prizes included gift baskets, cookbooks, Tupperware and many other items. Gidgett Wright won the grand prize, a bench and matching cabinet. Debbie Miller, the paper’s classified advertising manager, said, “It gets better every year, and I think this was the best one so far.” She added that she hopes to continue the event. “People really enjoy it and we hope to keep it going,” she said. Other prizes included giving away the food that was made during the show. Charlotte West traveled from Fayette with friends to attend the show. “When is the next one?” she said. “We want to come back, and next time we’ll bring more friends. We really enjoyed it.” Vendors were in attendance to promote their products, and every attendee was given a goodie bag filled with gifts, magazines and coupons. “The organizers are so nice, and the people that come to this are so open to try my product. My mission and the Mary Kay mission is to enrich women’s lives,” said Virginia Pritchard, an independent sales director with Mary Kay. Harrianne Johnson with Liberty National said this was a great event to educate women on health issues. “Our mission is to educate women on health issues concerning cancer protection and life insurance,” she said.
