Local warrants lead to meth bust in Decatur

By Patrick McCreless
The Cullman Times

The apprehension of a man on Cullman County warrants Friday led Decatur police to the discovery of meth-manufacturing materials.

Michael Lee Bowen, 22, of Arley was charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the second degree.

According to Decatur police reports, officers came into contact with Bowen during a routine traffic stop at Windmill Beverages on Highway 31 South. Through the initial investigation, officers discovered Bowen, who was one of three passengers in the vehicle, had active warrants in Cullman County.

Details on the Cullman warrants were not available by deadline of this article.

After learning of the warrants, the officers intensified their investigation and allegedly found chemical ingredients used to make methamphetamine.

The reports allege Bowen admitted to purchasing the chemicals for the purpose of making the drug.

Bowen was incarcerated on a $5,000 bond.

Unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the second degree is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
